Bits of Freedom Awarded 2025 Outdoor Equity Grant to Expand Access to Equine Therapy

It all begins with an idea.

We are thrilled to announce that Bits of Freedom has been awarded funding through the 2025 Colorado Parks and Wildlife Outdoor Equity Grant Program! This grant will allow us to expand access to our equine-assisted therapy programs, ensuring that more children and individuals from diverse and underserved communities can experience the transformative benefits of horseback riding and outdoor engagement.

What This Means for Our Community

The Outdoor Equity Grant Program is designed to help organizations like ours break down barriers to outdoor recreation, making it more accessible for youth who may not otherwise have the opportunity. With this funding, Bits of Freedom will be able to:

  • Expand our reach to more participants, including those from low-income families and historically excluded communities.

  • Provide scholarships to ensure cost is never a barrier to participation.

  • Enhance our programming by incorporating outdoor education, hands-on learning, and community-building experiences.

  • Improve accessibility with new resources and equipment to accommodate a wider range of physical abilities.

Why This Matters

Horseback riding is more than just a recreational activity—it’s a powerful tool for healing, confidence-building, and connection. Our program is designed to engage participants in an inclusive, supportive environment where they can develop physical, emotional, and social skills through interactions with horses.

The funding from the Outdoor Equity Grant will help us continue our mission of fostering resilience, independence, and a love for the outdoors in every rider who joins our program.

How You Can Get Involved

We invite our community to be part of this exciting journey! Whether you’re interested in volunteering, sponsoring a rider, or simply spreading the word, your support makes a difference.

Thank you to Colorado Parks and Wildlife for recognizing the importance of making the outdoors accessible to all. Together, we are ensuring that everyone—regardless of background or ability—has the chance to experience the joy and empowerment of horseback riding.

Stay tuned for more updates on our expanded programming, upcoming events, and success stories from our incredible riders!
